Warden's Call
Most games built around rich fantasy worlds are impossible to play without seeing the screen, leaving blind and low-vision players out of the story entirely.
Why this matters
The world of Peter V. Brett's Demon Cycle deserves to be explored by everyone. A fantasy audio game lets players step into the story through sound, movement, and choice rather than only pixels.
- Current idea
- Warden's Call is an audio adventure game inspired by the Demon Cycle series. You play as a warder facing the threats of the night, using keyboard or controller to move, fight, and make choices in a world rendered through spatial audio, voice acting, and screen-reader-friendly text. The game is built so anyone can play — with eyes open, with a screen reader, or with headphones and no screen at all.
- Accessibility notes
- Warden's Call is built as an audio-first game from the ground up. Every menu, dialogue, and action is fully accessible by screen reader and keyboard. Gamepad controls are fully mapped and can be customized. Spatial audio and directional cues make navigation possible without visuals, while optional text and captions support deaf and hard-of-hearing players. No mechanic requires fast reflexes or precise sight.
- What was learned
- Fantasy worlds come alive through sound direction, rhythm, and voice. The challenge is not just describing a scene, but giving the player enough audio landmarks to navigate, decide, and feel present in the story.
